The Battlefield Gets Bloodier

Well, it's Sunday night, the kids are at WAVES and I'm relaxing with my laptop. I married an awesome woman (no - not my laptop)! We came home from church and I forgot a few things and Janet said, "You stay home and relax, I'll go get them." And then when it was time to take the Lydia and Christopher back to church for WAVES, Janet said, "Why don't you just stay home and relax, I'll take them." Weekends are busy for me, Sunday is very draining, but it is for my wife as well. She takes care of our family, teaches our kids, leads worship, leads Promiseland, but she still looks out for me. I am a blessed man. I definitely married "up."
Today was another good day. The band just seemed to be "on" today (and they remained "still" during transitions - thanks guys). Janet did a great job of capturing the moment during worship. I don't know what the count was as far as attendance goes, but we did have several new faces. Two of the families here today for the first time talked about how welcome they felt and that they definitely will return. The Giant that came down today was Depression. I want to share a statement from the Connect Cards today that someone turned in, "Great message - and so true. After decades on anti-depressants I've been "free" from meds for over two years - all because of Jesus' presence in my life." Amen! During the decision time several people stood up indicating they were struggling with depression and needed prayer. Temptation, Worry, Depression - the battlefield is getting bloody. Next week - Debt! Janet told me that we ought to have a jar up front with a big pair of scissors and during the decision time have people come forward and cut their credit cards! Who knows? But I do know this, if we mean business and God has been dealing with you in this area, it might be time for some strong measures. We'll see!

One more thing, I'm going to devote a post a week to something I'm going to call, "Hero of the Week." Honestly, I haven't settled on a title yet. I kind of like, "Freak of the Week." But what it will be is a time to catch and recognize someone in our church serving. I'll simply tell you about someone and their ministry or act of service and why I think they're the "Freak of the Week." Yeah, I think I like that better. If you want to nominate someone or have a cool title or want to cast your vote on either of those, send me a note! Well, Janet and kids should be walking in the door any minute. We'll be watching Amazing Race. Later!
