Freaks of the Week!

CarolandHenry
Every so often someone will ask me if we have any older adults at Coastal. And when they do, I'll rattle off a few names (don't worry - I won't name names here). And then without fail I'll say something like, "Oh, and there's Henry & Carol Biering, but they don't really fit in that category." You see, Henry & Carol are the youngest older adults I think I've ever met and they are my Freaks of the Week! I absolutely love this couple! I snapped this picture of them this morning cleaning the church - which they've done many times. They are great examples of humble servant leaders. Their rich spiritual journey, their love for the Lord, for Coastal, for others, for their family, and for each other is nothing short of inspirational. If you ever get a chance, sit down with them (if you can keep up with them) and ask them about their journey. What will blow you away is that they're still going and growing strong! You never get the sense that they think they've arrived or that it's time to be put out to pasture, which is how many people many years younger than them act. Retire? Slow down? Puhh-leeaase! There's too much still to be done.
They serve on the First Impressions Team, volunteer (probably more than anyone else) at the Crisis Ministry Homeless Shelter, organize clothing drives for the Star Gospel Mission, serve in the Nursery, and are probably some of the best Small Group Leaders I've ever seen. Carol is also on Jeremiah's WAVES Student Ministry Team and Henry can be seen on occasion fixing or taking care of something around the church. And they're always inviting people to church! They just get it! They are a great example of people living the abundant LIFE that Jesus came to bring.

And as you can see from this picture, Carol is a former pin-up model! You go Henry! Just joking. Carol gave me this picture for our "Old School" series that starts tomorrow. It was taken at Folly Beach. I'm still waiting to see one of Henry. I pray I look and live like them at their age. And maybe, just maybe, because of Carol & Henry, it's possible that I might actually buy some food at Earth Fare one day!
