Sunday Reflections . . . Hurt So Good!
04/16/07 08:48 PM
I know this is a little late for my Sunday
Reflections, but better late than never. Actually
the power was out at my house until Sunday night.
But thankfully it came on by the time we got home
and the kids got to watch the Amazing Race. Beth
Duckworth told me her power didn't come on until
10:30 this morning!
Our series, "Old School" kicked off in groovy fashion Sunday morning - literally! The band rocked out the opening song, "Hurt So Good" - great job Wyatt! This is a picture of the stage from practice on Saturday night. My family is especially ready for the next song. You see, I have this annoying habit of getting a song stuck in my head and then running it in into the ground. For several days now, in the shower, in the car, in the grocery store, I'll just burst out very loudly in, "Come on baby make it hurt so good!" I know, I need help. Everyone seemed impressed with our "Old School" decor in the auditorium - lava lamps, album covers, beads, polyester, video games, tie dye. Where did we get all the "stuff" you ask? The video games (80's) came from Ricky Spell. The album covers (70's) came from Eddie Evans. The beads, clothes, and other props (60's) came from Junk & Jive Retro Mart and the Footlight Players prop warehouse.

The pictures were a huge hit (Prisca Denton has a
few new enemies)! I think people paid more
attention to the Announcement slides than ever
before. I've got some great ones for next week, but
I need more! Just supply the pictures and we'll
scan them. And yes there will be a picture of your
Pastor and yes I did have hair! My message was a
little heady on Sunday, but I think that's good as
long as the information leads to application and
transformation. We talked about the existence of
God, the doctrine of creation, and the doctrine of
the Trinity. But what I hope came through loud and
clear is what we talk about all the time at Coastal
- LIFE! God created LIFE. God breathed LIFE into
humanity. And God wants us to experience LIFE
through community with Him and others.
Sunday night was a lot of fun as we got a chance to "shower" Jeremiah and Cyndi with love (and gifts)! It's less than one month now before they are husband and wife. Just out of curiosity, for those of you who have been married a while, if you got to have a wedding shower now, after the fact, what would you want? What would you register for?
Be at Coastal this Sunday and bring someone with you! That's why we're here - to share LIFE with others. This Sunday we'll be talking about how we messed up God's plan. In light of what happened today at Virginia Tech, it seems especially appropriate. Like I said Sunday, our world seems more and more like the world of the Old Testament all the time. My heart goes out to the families of the 32 people who lost their life today. Horrific. Senseless. Tragic. Sunday morning really is about LIFE and death issues. Over and over in my mind today I kept thinking about our Children's Ministry and our Student Ministry. Let's continue to step up our commitment to these areas of Ministry. Yes, these are dire times we are living in, but that just means that there are greater opportunities for the church. Let's show the world there really is more to LIFE! Who are you praying for? Who are you bringing?
