"Goin' to the Chapel and we're gonna . . . "

No, this is not a picture of me. It's actually "Elvis" Eddie Powers in front of the "Say I Do" Drive Thru Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Sometimes I do feel a bit like this guy. I do a lot of weddings. In fact, I'm headed out to Kiawah to a Wedding Rehearsal in just a little while. I have two rehearsals and three weddings this weekend. I think I have like 8-10 weddings this month. I started doing weddings about the same time I started our church. I had no idea at the time how many people come to Charleston to get married. I also had no idea at the time how big an "industry" getting married is here in Charleston. Not to brag or anything, but I do a pretty good job. And now over time, places like the Sanctuary, Seabrook, Middleton Place, and people like Wedding Planners and Photographers all have my name.
Now before you leave me a nasty comment, I recognize that different people have different opinions about marrying people - who they will or won't marry. Let me simply say this, over the years I have had the privilege to witness to countless people. I talk openly about who I am, how I view marriage, and what a difference Jesus can make in a marriage. I have had the chance to leave a positive testimony about Christ and the church with many people who would never darken the door of a church. We have also had many people over the years visit our church and even make our church their home.

Just this week I was reminded about the opportunity I've had to talk about Christ and His Church at a wedding. Bill Brown came to my Men's Small Group this week. As he introduced himself to our group he shared how I married him & Susan a little over a year ago. They started coming to our church, got involved, signed up for our 101 Class, and even volunteered to serve in Promiseland. They're just super people. Make sure you get to know them.

What about you? Where has God strategically placed you? He's got you there (a workplace, neighborhood, sports team, school, family, even a wedding) for a reason. We are called to be salt and light, penetrating our culture with the Good News. Intercede (pray). Invest (build a relationship). Invite (bring them to Coastal). Include (get them involved in our family and in Ministry). That's our simple strategy. Now again, what about you? Are you doing this? If not, quite simply and quite frankly, you are sinning and outside the will of God. Let's get going Coastal! Let's pull out all the stops and get serious about reaching this generation and this world for Jesus!

Well, I've got to get going. "I now present to you for the very first time, Mr. & Mrs. . . " Thank you, thank you, thank you very much. Pastor Chris has left the office.
